When you think of facial cosmetic surgery procedures intended to reduce the appearance of aging, the first thing that comes to mind might be larger areas of concern such as the brow and forehead or chin and neck. Your eyelids, however, are one very small area that can make a big difference in how you are seen and perceived by others.
The importance of both the upper and lower eyelids to other people’s perception of your eyes themselves and to the appearance of your face overall are why the Drs. Carlotti perform eyelid lifts, or blepharoplasty, at our Scottsdale cosmetic surgery clinic. Blepharoplasty can be a stand-alone procedure or just one element of a facelift.
Because your eyes are where people tend to focus when conversing with you, the condition of the skin and tissues surrounding them contribute disproportionately to the impression that you make on others. Both women and men often grow dissatisfied with the way their eyelids have changed over time, but many people might not be aware that cosmetic eyelid surgery is even available to improve the way they look. For some people, unfortunately, heredity can bring on unwelcome changes to the eyelids when they are still relatively young, regardless of their lifestyle, and even in spite of having taken good care of their skin.
Blepharoplasty removes the wrinkles and lines around the eyes that often appear with age, especially for people who have had a lot of exposure to the sun over the years. Just as importantly, an eyelid lift also reduces any unattractive puffiness and droopiness of the eyelids that can make you seem years older than your chronological age.
Blepharoplasty is performed using small incisions in the crease of the upper eyelids and along the lash line of the lower eyelids. The positioning of the incisions, and the very fine sutures used to close them at the end of the procedure, produce scarring that is minimal and that is hidden from view after healing. A variation of the procedure, transconjunctival blepharoplasty, is done under local anesthesia as an outpatient procedure, often in combination with fractional laser treatments.
The eyelids are a small and delicate area but, as we pointed out, are extremely important to overall facial appearance. If you’d like to have an eyelid lift, you should find an experienced cosmetic surgeon with an excellent aesthetic sense. At The Carlotti Center for Cosmetic Surgery in Scottsdale, we have not one but two surgeons who fit the bill. The unique husband-and-wife team of Dr. Albert Carlotti and Dr. Michele-Cabret Carlotti bring their shared expertise and experience to blepharoplasties and other cosmetic procedures for the face, body and breasts.
